apple weather

This past week has been a classic apple week. We picked sun up to sundown every day. In my opinion the macs are right now at their peak flavor and I ate a cortland last evening that was just about perfect. This weekend we will be allowing some picking in the macouns, although I think another week is needed to add flavor. Speaking of flavor, usually the first few weeks we make cider it reflects the apples we use, a bit tart! However I purposely kept some apples in a warm place to get them to ripen up and the cider we made yesterday was great! It looks like a mixed bag weatherwise this weekend but we will see. I have long believed that there is no better apple than one picked and eaten with sweet rain water on it. We picked the last of the sweet corn yesterday and when it is gone this weekend that’s it till next year, time to till the fields and plant a winter covercrop. Gotta go I think I will Diane if she wants to go for a ride on my big green tractor
